Coca-Cola Prices Slashed
19 March 2013
18 March 2013, Lusaka: Zambian Breweries Plc, the bottling company for Coca-Cola products in Zambia, has announced a price reduction on all its 500ml plastic PET bottle products. The price reduction of 7% takes effect today, Monday, 18th March 2013, on all brands including Coca-Cola, Fanta and Sprite in the 500ml plastic PET bottles only. The price of the 300ml returnable glass bottle (RGB) remains unchanged.
The roll back on the price of the 500ml PET product is in response to the Zambian Government’s removal of excise tax on carbonated soft drinks (CSD’s) in the 2013 budget. Zambian Breweries Plc. Managing Director Anele Malumo said:
“Through this price reduction, we are passing the full benefit of the removal of the excise tax to our consumers. As a company, we anticipated the government’s commitment to the removal of the tax and reduced the price on our 300ml returnable glass bottle (RGB) products by 23% in March 2012. Now that the excise tax on CSD’s has officially been removed, we are able to reduce the price on our 500ml PET bottle products to a recommended retail price of KR4.20 and to maintain the recommended price on our 300 ml RGB at KR1.70 that we reduced it to last year.”
Zambian Breweries Plc, a subsidiary of SABMiller Plc, is the leading beverages producer in Zambia. An on-going drive to improve efficiencies in operations and distribution has enabled the company to reduce costs and provide competitively priced products by passing on the benefits of such cost-saving measures to its consumers.
Zambian Breweries Plc also announced a national promotion on all its carbonated soft drink (CSD) products that will run from today, March 18th, to May 31st 2013 where lucky consumers will win many great prizes, including 15 tickets to the Confederation Cup to be held in Brazil from June 15th to 30th 2013.
