Lima, November 16, 2010 - There are few companies in Peru that have exceeded one century of operations and have maintained their leadership through time. One of them is Unión de Cervecerías Peruanas Backus y Johnston, which, during its 130 years of corporate life, has tirelessly contributed to the country's development.
Backus is the leader in the Peruvian beer market and, with an excellent corporate background, demonstrates its passion for Peru and its people through ongoing consumer contact, employment generation, constant support of cultural, social and sporting activities and an important contribution to the national treasury.
On this subject, Robert Priday, president of Backus, said, "Our passion for Peru and its people is the excitement with which, 130 years later, we're still optimistic about the future. We are a company that has learned to adapt to change efficiently, and we will continue to invest in Peru for the benefit of consumers, our collaborators and the community."
In this sense, and to remember the path and the history of the company, one of its most renowned directors, Francisco Mujica, wrote the book "Backus: 1954-2009, de la peruanización a la globalización," and presented it at the Museum of Art in Lima.
"Through the pages of this book, people will know the history of Backus, a company that makes Peruvians proud of its tradition and national leadership," said Mujica.
It should be noted that Backus offers a portfolio of quality brands that consumers prefer. It is a responsible and innovative company with such national presence that it has become an icon of the leading companies of Peru.
Jaime Thorne, Minister of Defense, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, director of Backus, and Beatriz Boza, Executive Director of Ciudadanos al Día, assisted with the Backus book launching ceremony. They were in charge of the book's presentation, speaking about Backus' contribution to corporate growth, and speaking about maintaining Peruvian icons and its social, cultural and economic contribution to the country, respectively.
