History

1842

The first Pilsner type, bottom-fermented pale beer is brewed in Plzen (Pilsen), in essence establishing the name of the Pilsner/Pils beer category now known worldwide.

1895

The Pilsner Bier trademark is registered.

1994

Plzeňský Prazdroj is formed as a joint stock company.

1999

SAB Ltd acquires Plzeňský Prazdroj.

2002

Plzeňský Prazdroj merges with Pivovar Radegast a.s. and Pivovar Velke Popovice a.s. to form Plzeňský Prazdroj a.s.

2009

Plzeňský Prazdroj acquire rights to use protected geographical indication „České pivo“ (The Czech Beer)

Turning waste into energy in the Czech Republic

This year, Plzeňský Prazdroj in the Czech Republic has worked on a number projects to help reduce its total energy use. One innovation is a device that turns draff (the grain left over after malted barley has been boiled and the liquid filtered out for fermentation) into a renewable fuel.

The responsible choice – non-alcoholic beer

SABMiller produces a number of non-alcoholic beer brands around the world. In the Czech Republic, non-alcoholic beer accounts for approximately 3% of the beer market. Plzeňský Prazdroj's Birell was established 20 years ago and in November 2012, was voted the non-alcoholic beer of the year by the Association of the Friends of Beer.
