A unique virtual bicycle race to be held in Czech Republic – Radegast Birell Virtual Marathon
27 March 2009
Prague, March 24th, 2009 - On Saturday, March 28th, a unique race will be held in Liberec - the first Czech virtual bicycle marathon. A screen will be placed in front of the racers' stationary ergometers, showing the 50-km race on an actual route of Ještěd Tour Kooperativa. The ergometers are set up to simulate a nearly realistic ride through the terrain for the racers. All bicycling enthusiasts can participate in the race.
Radegast Birell Virtual Marathon will be the first Czech virtual race imitating an actual bicycling route. All will be as real - on a big-screen projection in front of them, the racers will see a map of places they're passing through. Just like in a real race, all participants will have their own competition number, and will be able to monitor their current position on a map. Kettler Ergoracer ergometers equipped with UniVET software will simulate a realistic ride through the terrain.
The race will take place on March 28th at the Hotel Petra in Liberec and everyone who registers on the www.kolopro.cz website can attend. After a qualifier on a shortened 5-km stretch, the 16 best riders will compete in the finals. The fastest racers in the men's and women's categories will win a Kettler ergometer, a one-year supply of Radegast Birell non-alcoholic beer, and many other valuable prizes. The race is organized by ČS MTB Team, s.r.o. (organizer of the Bike for Life series) and SportSoft, s.r.o. (developer of the UniVET software).
"For Radegast Birell, partnership with a virtual cycling marathon is next in a line of activities supporting cyclists. It is also a partner of the tenth jubilee year of the largest cycling series, Bike for Life, supports three of the largest bicycle marathons, sponsors the Rubena Specialized Cycling Team, the best Czech professional cycling team, and organizes a series of events for recreational cyclists. In addition, Radegast Birell runs four Moravian-Silesian routes and publishes cycling maps that consumers can find in its multipacks," says Vladimír Vaněk, manager of the Radegast Birell brand.
Thanks to its composition, Radegast Birell is a favorite drink among cyclists, as confirmed by a survey during last year's Bike for Life races. One third of participants drink it during races, and more than half drink it afterwards. Radegast Birell is also recommended as a suitable beverage by doctors.
