Lima, March 20, 2009 - The Confederación Nacional de Instituciones Empresariales, CONFIEP, [Confederation of Business Organizations], as the secretariat of The Global Compact in Peru, jointly with the British Peruvian Chamber awarded Backus with The Global Compact Peru: Ethics and Business Leadership Recognition for their work in the protection of the environment, reflected in the implementation of residual waste waters treatment.
This recognition is awarded to companies that demonstrate their advances in the application of the Ten Principles of The Global Compact, which cover the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. The companies that participated operate in Peru and they are aligned with The Global Compact.
"The Global Compact Peru: Ethics and Business Leadership Recognition" is promoted by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the consultancy RH Resource and the International Labor Organization (ILO), and its main objective is encouraging a new business culture in the country by identifying the private companies whose responsible practices promote and strengthen the principles of The Global Compact.
It is important to mention that this recognition is the result of the efforts made by different departments in the company, especially Manufacture, which is in charge of four of the priorities of Sustainable Development that Backus promotes, and that they are related to the protection of the environment.
