Pilsner Urquell - official beer of The Open Championship

15 July 2010

Pilsner Urquell, the official beer of The Open Championship, will be bringing legends to life at the renowned Old Course at St Andrews as The Open Championship celebrates its 150th anniversary. The Open Championship is the world's original golf major and has remained uncompromised since it was founded in 1860. Pilsner Urquell is a truly fitting companion to this legendary sporting event as the world's original pilsner which remains uncompromisingly true to its heritage.

To further bring together the legendary stories of The Open and Pilsner Urquell, renowned British golfer Tony Jacklin C.B.E. has been selected as a brand ambassador for the extent of the tournament. Known for his vast knowledge and experience of The Old Course at St Andrews, having played in 27 Open Championships including five at St Andrews and winning once, Tony will help to reinforce the brand's commitment to purity and originality.

"It is honouring to be asked to work with Pilsner Urquell, in the context of The Open, for which I have such a great affinity," says Tony Jacklin C.B.E. "I'm really looking forward to enjoying this year's championship."

"Both Pilsner Urquell, The Open Championship and Tony Jacklin are original, uncompromised pioneers in their respective fields and very much set a gold standard for legendary heritage," says Chris Taylor, Group International Brands Director. "We are excited by these partnerships and look forward to celebrating the 150th anniversary of the tournament with The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews."

Petr Dvorak, International Brand Director for Pilsner Urquell, says, "We are thrilled that so many people embraced Pilsner Urquell at The Open in 2009. In 2010, we are working hard to ensure a world-class beer experience for attendees at The Open that honours the legends of these two original, uncompromised leaders."

Pilsner Urquell is the exclusive beer of The Open and will be available at The Old Course at St Andrews in all bars and hospitality areas.
