30 March 2009

Forty-nine companies participated in the competition, submitting 71 projects that were evaluated by a panel of qualified jurors.

The Comisión Centroamericana de Ambiente y Desarrollo, (Central American Environment and Development Committee) (CCAD), recognized Industrias La Constancia (ILC) for having cleaner production in brewing in the materials category.  ILC was also awarded a special mention in the water category among the countries in the region (Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and the Dominican Republic).
Forty-nine companies participated in the competition, submitting 71 projects that were evaluated by a panel of qualified jurors.
The company reduced its water use by 62% and solid waste by 58% during the last eight years. It also increased the recycling of post-production factory materials by 67% in the last year.
ILC's president, Martin van Dam, said that ILC is, and will continue to be, a company committed to the changes that the current world demands. The policy of sustainable development that the company embraces requires that the company continually improve its production processes to protect the environment.
The award recognizes the company's environmental achievements, such as reduction of water use, creation of waste reduction and recycling programs, installation of a recycling centre in the brewing plant, a more than 300% improvement in recycling prices of plastic films and cardboard, a 58% reduction of solid waste sent to landfills, and a 67.78% increase of post-production factory materials recycling in the last year.
