Santa Cruz de Tenerife, February 21, 2013 - Workers from Compañía Cervecera de Canarias will develop a corporate volunteer project at the SOS Children’s Villages Association, after an agreement signed this morning between both parties and Tenerife’s Council, through the Volunteering Bureau managed by Sinpromi and the NGOs Volunteering Platform Federation of Tenerife.
Thanks to this initiative, the second one developed by Compañía Cervecera within the area of corporate volunteering, more than 70 workers will volunteer at Children’s Villages facilities at El Tablero and La Laguna. Some of the activities include garden clearing and conditioning, soil preparation and planting and cooking workshops.
One of the characteristics of this method focuses on the fact that the company gives away working hours of those employees willing to participate so they can help an NGO and therefore encourage a spirit of solidarity.
It is also part of the Tenerife Solidario Programme that aims to promote, strengthen and create awareness about volunteering and Tenerife’s association basis.
The signing of the agreement was attended by Cristina Valido, Insular Minister of Social Action of Tenerife’s Council; Claudia Elejabeitia, Compañía Cervecera’s Human Resources Director; Francisco Javier Perdomo, Regional Director of Canarias SOS Children’s Villages; and Ester Asensio, President of NGOs Volunteering Platform Federation of Tenerife.
This action is part of the social responsibility initiatives which Compañía Cervecera has been working in for years and that have materialised in relief projects to various NGOs through sponsorships and donations. This is in addition to other actions to fight irresponsible drinking, optimize water and energy use and reduce CO2 emissions, promote recycling and reuse of packaging and encourage social investment in the community.
The first corporate volunteer action launched by Compañía Cervecera was held last year in collaboration with Tenerife’s Council’s Environmental Office. On this occasion, 24 employees from the company participated in a day of beach cleaning and the release of native birds.
Since then, the organisation has been investing in this collaboration process through more extensive programmes such as the one signed today, that opens new options in this area.
This collaboration agreement reinforces the objective of improving the quality of life of Canarians that the company has been championing through actions that provide further growth opportunities and contribute to improve training and invest in the development and progress of all Canarias.
