The Zöld Pók Alapítvány [Green Spider Foundation] accepted the HBLF Special Prize, Média a Társadalomért [Media in the Service of Society] from the Dreher Sörgyárak Zrt [Dreher Beer Manufacturers Zrt] (Translation)

3 February 2012

The Green Spider Foundation has received the Special  Prize of the Hungarian Business Leaders Forum's (HBLF) "Média in the Service of Society" competition, which was presented by the Dreher Beer Manufacturers Zrt. This is the 10th time the work of journalists, who have attempted to document exemplary stories of cooperation and responsibility in society is rewarded. Other awardees besides the Green Spider Foundation were: Anna Lengyel Nagy (MR1 Radio Kossuth), Lilla Rist (Nők Lapja [Women's Journal]) and Bea Balázs (MR1 Radio Kossuth).

Sándor Lóránt Kovács, Development Executive of Dreher Manufacturers Zrt. presented the Certificate of Merit to the Green Spider Foundation with these words: "We experience day after day, even in a large company, that creative, individual ideas are necessary to have our news stand out from the overwhelming media noise, as we are experimenting with and learning about online communication.  It may be even more difficult at civic organisations without full-time PR or Marketing professionals - and that is where the activities of the Green Spider Foundation fill a need. In many cases we are not aware of important and successful social programmes, they escape our attention even though they would be noteworthy. However, the Green Spider reports and videos give them a better chance to be noticed and for us to get involved in them. It is fortunate that players in the civic sector share their knowledge and learn from each other - luckily, we see positive initiatives in the business sphere, as well, where we can share our good practises in the areas of sustainable development, environment and society with other companies in the interest of joint learning and development."

The Green Spider, a  priority public-utility foundation, has been helping the Internet communication of civic organisations since 1993. Since 2009, its primary focus has been to prepare video reports for civic organisations with the participation of professional experts, and to operate the community portal "Lehet más a világ"(lmv.hu) [There May be a Different World]. The goal of the foundation is to help nonprofit organisations introduce their collected knowledge and successful social organisations to the general public.

Mandy Fertetics, leader of company relations and sustainable development at Dreher Beer Manufacturers Zrt. added, "Despite the difficult economic situation, it was not even a question for us whether to support again this prize this year, as we find the development of media in this direction extremely important. No matter how good social and environmental ideas, causes or programmes we have - whether these are civic or company initiatives - it is important to make them visible and engaging. They must become news - in the best sense of the word. Reporters and journalists play a key role in this - and we want to acknowledge their work here. The Green Spider Foundation has done an exceptional job, and we hope that their activities will become better known not only within the non-profit sector, but in the wider society, as well. I trust that this Certificate of Merit will contribute to that goal."
