In July 2011 SABMiller plc summarised the first quarter of the current fiscal year that started April 1 2011*. «Miller Brands Ukraine» , the Ukrainian branch of SABMiller, demonstrated considerable production growth, beating the competition in percentage and numbers.
Internationally, SABMiller increased beer and non-alcoholic beverages sales by 5%. This became possible thanks to the brands' portfolio fortification, as well as increasing consumer spending on many developing markets thanks to the low base effect - the dynamics of the last year's first quarter were relatively weak. The quarterly revenue of SABMiller increased by 7% thanks to the sales growth, increasing prices in certain markets and improvements of the brands' portfolios.
Here is the SABMiller sales dynamics in the regions: Latin America - 6%, Africa - 15%, Asia - 11%. In Europe, quarterly beer sales increased by 5%. The European growth is mainly due to considerable increase in production and sales of the Ukrainian branch.
According to production volume data (source: «Ukrpivo»), in the first half-year of the 2011 fiscal year, «Miller Brands Ukraine» was considerably ahead of the competition in percentage and numbers.
During January-June 2011, «Miller Brands Ukraine's» production volume increased by 86% as compared to the same period in the previous year. In absolute figures, the company also demonstrated higher-than-anticipated growth by adding 360 thousand hectoliters, which is considerably higher than the same index for their competitors in the Ukrainian beer market.
«SABMiller possesses extensive experience in developing acquired assets on different markets. Initially, after SABMiller entered the Ukrainian market in July 2008 by acquiring the closed joint-stock company «Sarmat», our main task was to integrate «Sarmat» (Since December 2010, private company «Miller Brands Ukraine») into the SABMiller structure and implement the group's global standards in the Ukrainian company. This included operation process and conduct of business, for example, in marketing technologies and organizational processes», stated Igor Tikhonov, general manager of «Miller Brands Ukraine». «Besides, it was necessary to survive the economic crisis that coincided with the «Sarmat» purchase, with minimal losses. Both tasks were successfully completed, and then we concentrated on expanding the distribution network and developing the portfolio of brands including «inherited» local brands and licenced brands from the global portfolio of the parent company. Obviously, systematic actions and product development in the most promising segments led to the superior growth of «Miller Brands Ukraine», compared to the competition, in percentage and numbers.»
*The fiscal year in Great Britain starts on April 1 and ends on March 31 of the following year.
