SABMiller plc sets standard for labelling compliance

15 February 2010

Miller Brands UK ("MBUK"), subsidiary of leading brewer, SABMiller plc, has set the standard for other drinks producers by not only labelling all of its brands in the UK with all five elements of the Chief Medical Officer's guidance, but by including the information on all of its outer packaging for retail.  This provides accurate and balanced information to consumers.

Nick Miller, managing director of MBUK said, "Reminding adult consumers to drink sensibly is core to our business.  That's why we have included the Chief Medical Officer's advice on all of our product labels and outer packaging.  We even stopped importing one of our brands because of the complexities in putting the Chief Medical Officer's advice on that niche brand.  While we recognise that labels are just one component of a larger communication mix through which awareness, understanding and behaviour change on harmful drinking can be achieved, they serve as useful reminders for us all."

Our commitment to consumer information is supported by a consumer-facing website, http://www.talkingalcohol.com/, where consumers can find out not only how alcohol impacts the body, but also the calories, alcohol content, and cereal grains we use in our brands.
