Packaging forms a core part of SABMiller’s Manufacturing Supply Chain, and offers a broad range of career opportunities in Packaging Operations, Technical Support and Packaging Development functions. Responsibilities cover:

The Manufacturing process and Packaging Specialist Support functions in process technology and line design.

Packaging Materials and new product / package development respectively.

Entry level requirements are typically drawn from the Engineering and Sciences Candidates are required to have an undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or, Electrical Engineering for the production and support functions, and an undergraduate degree in Materials Science, Materials Technology for the Package, Materials development and technical support functions .

New recruits go through a fully integrated training and development programme to equip them with the relative process and manufacturing knowledge to ensure that the individual gains the appropriate skill set.

Career opportunities include Packaging line Supervision where Team Leaders are exposed to all aspects of production management in a high speed capital intensive manufacturing environment, with career paths potentially progressing from Team Leader through to Packaging Manager and ultimately to General Management

Operations Support: Our Packaging manufacturing process is designed around a world class manufacturing philosophy and strategy, where the manufacturing teams comprise of multidisciplinary functions of which the technical support functions are key members of these teams. Careers in the technical support disciplines include Packaging Engineering responsible for ensuring asset integrity,

Packaging Development Specialists

responsible for application support and introduction of world class manufacturing concepts, and, Packaging Quality and QA practitioners who provide specialist laboratory and process analysis support. o Packaging Development Specialists: The packaging supply chain and manufacturing process rely on materials and process sundries to produce the ultimate package for distribution and sale to the consumer. Technical Development Specialists specify and ensure that the materials used and supplied meet all our requirements in terms of quality and performance.

In the area of new product development, Packaging specialists provide a key innovation and project implementation role in the development of new substrate technology and packages to meet Marketing strategies and requirements. They focus on setting manufacturing and process standards for packaging, and, leading evaluation and innovation of new technology, and the provision of strategic technical leadership in functional skills development.
