Backus protects the environment by recycling billboard canvases (Translation)

30 March 2012

- 60 teachers were trained in eco-business seminar.
- 500 laptop cases were donated to schools.

Lima, March 28, 2012 - One of Backus' lines of action in its approach to Sustainable Development is social projects aimed at protecting and caring for the Environment. Backus has four priorities regarding the protection of the environment: reducing its water consumption, reducing its energy and carbon print, package reduction, re-usage and recycling, and working towards zero waste in its operations.

This was how they found a great opportunity to blend the objective of the course "Emprende Maestro" from the Backus Virtual School, that shows how to improve teaching of the Education for Work course, with the environmental conservation approach, by giving new uses to billboard canvases, reusing them or recycling them for making products such as wallets, purses, bags, laptop cases, etc.

Laptop cases made out of billboard canvases were donated to schools of UGEL N° 06 - Ate Vitarte that received laptops with the operating system XO from the Government. The following schools received said donation: 1278 Coed La Molina, 1226 Sol de Vitarte, 1228 Leoncio Prado, 1264 Juan A. Vivanco, Indira Gandhi and the National Coed School Huaycán.

Also, Backus has found a way of projecting this business opportunity toward the community through a productive project workshop for school teachers. The Eco-business Workshop: billboard canvas re-usage aims to teach how to extend the life of non-biodegradable materials continually discarded in advertising. More information at
