Kompania Piwowarska [the Brewing Company] supports the Conference on Climate Change COP 14
27 November 2008
On December 1-12, 2008, a Conference on Climate Change COP 14 devoted to the problems of climate change and environment protection will take place in Poznan. To honour the occasion, Kompania Piwowarska prepared a special limited series of beer and a variety of ecological attractions for all the conference participants as well as the hosts from Poznan.
The 14th Conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), together with the 4th Session of the Meeting of the Parties of the Kyoto Protocol, which will take place in Poznan on December 1-12, 2008, is this year's most important event in the field of climate change issues in Europe.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an agreement on the basis of which the international plan of action to fight global warming was established to reduce its negative effects, among others through a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Some 8000 people will participate in the Conference. Poznan will host over government delegations as well as representatives of NGOs, ecological and business organizations.
The Conference is organized by the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat.
Eco-attractions during the COP14
In view of the above, Kompania Piwowarska, as a host in the Poznan Region, decided to support the Climate Change Conference COP 14 and prepared for the occasion a special edition of the Beer Żubr, which will be a special gift at the inaugural reception for the participants of the conference and others. The special eco-label will list information regarding the saving of water (10%), thermal energy (29%) and reduction of C02 emissions (as high as 47%) which the company achieved in all its breweries within the last three years. It is a proof of how highly the Company prioritizes the issues of environment protection.
"We are fully aware that a market leader such as Kompania Piwowarska is expected not only to have great sales and growing market share but above all to lead the way in starting trends and demonstrating a model behaviour in shaping standards and templates to follow," said Katarzyna Wilczewska, Public Affairs Manager of Kompania Piwowarska. In order to realize these tasks, the Company, as the first one in the Polish industry, has published since 2006 its annual environment report which presents the achievements in saving water and energy and accomplishments in waste management (RAPORT ŚRODOWISKOWY - ENVIRONMENT REPORT).
The special beer edition is not the only attraction provided by KP to the ecologists visiting Poznan. Participants of the Conference as well as Poznan residents will be able to use a free green bus ride from Towarowa Street (in the vicinity of the International Poznan Fair) to the KP in Poznan (Szwajcarska Street) to pay an ecological visit to the Brewery. The guests will be able to see how the beer is produced and visit the places where the Company has already introduced changes following its priorities and ecological philosophy. The tours will be run in English by professionally trained guides. (For the itinerary, see: http://www.zwiedzaniebrowaru.pl/)
In addition, to make a visit to Poznan more pleasant, the Company invites all jazz fans On December 7 to the Teatr Polski for 8 p.m. to a concert of Acker Bilk and his Paramount Jazz Band - the legendary English clarinettist, one of the few living legends of the Louis Armstrong era, a composer and performer of the famous piece Stranger On The Shore (tickets are available at the cashier's windows at the Teatr Polski).
