SABMiller appoints new president in Colombia

24 January 2006

Ref: 03/2006

SABMiller plc announces that Karl Lippert, the managing director of its Polish operations, has been appointed President of Bavaria, the group’s recently acquired subsidiary in Colombia.  Karl Lippert replaces the existing President, Ricardo Obregón, who announced his intention to resign in December 2005.  Karl Lippert will take over on 13 February 2006 and will report to SABMiller’s Latin America president, Barry Smith.

Lippert, who joined South African Breweries in 1992, has been managing director of Kompania Piwowarska (‘KP’) in Poland since 2003.  Prior to that he was managing director of Dreher in Hungary and Sales & Distribution director for SABMiller Europe, based in Budapest. Under his management in Poland, Kompania Piwowarska has increased its market share from 31% to 38% and implemented a number of highly successful brand development and innovation initiatives, such as the transformation of Żubr (‘Bison’) from a small regional position, to Poland’s second largest and fastest growing brand. New products launched over the period now account for over 30% of SABMiller’s Polish sales, and the company’s brands have won a variety of awards including the BIIA Grand Prix for Tyskie in 2005.

Commenting, Barry Smith said:
“Karl brings a wealth of experience in product development, brand and trade marketing to Bavaria, and has built a first class team in Poland to rival any company in the world. I am sure he will bring the same enthusiasm, drive and vision to Colombia which will be of benefit to our customers and consumers, employees and stakeholders alike.”

Karl Lippert said:
“Bavaria has a phenomenal track record and reputation, which I and my colleagues from SABMiller intend to continue and build on in future. I am proud to be able to join such a successful team, and look forward to making new friends. Colombia is such a vibrant country – I visited recently and cannot wait to return.”
