For its programme, Making Progress Together Backus Receives the Peru 2021 Award For Social Responsibility Initiatives (Translation)

- Accessing the financial system is made easy through the bank service accessibility programme, thus promoting financial inclusion. 

Lima, December 23rd, 2011- The social non-profit association Peru 2021, with the help of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, gave awards to the best projects in social responsibility and sustainable development, led by 11 of the 45 companies nominated. Backus was awarded in the Clients category for its active role as an agent of change and development of the country, through their programme Making Progress Together.

This programme, with the goal of contributing to the strengthening of the capabilities of the micro- and small businesses linked to its value chain, has found the opportunity of working with its clients in order to encourage their access to the financial system through the banking of the money earned with the selling of their products.

Luis Guzmán, Backus Treasury Director, who received the award on behalf of Backus, stated, "Two years ago, Backus started this financial inclusion programme within the framework of Making Progress Together, with the goal of encouraging bank service accessibility among the 180,000 selling points nationwide. This includes training workshops such as: finances, marketing, taxing, and good management practises, with the goal of contributing to their development and growth."

Among the benefits that this programme has for its clients, both access to credits and secure and efficient transactions are noteworthy. To this date, 2,700 clients have access to credit lines for work capital with less interests, for quantities among S/. 6,000 y S/. 8,000, for a total amount of S/. 48 million.

Also noteworthy is that, in 2009, Peru 2021 awarded Backus with prizes in both the Providers and Clients categories for the development of a programme aimed at small producers of yellow hard corn in the country's north and for its programme of Responsible Consumption that includes works of prevention and education with different groups, as well as a media campaign called "Put yourself a limit," calling for self-regulation and a healthy decision of drinking moderately as part of a healthy lifestyle, with each person establishing their own limit.
