Compañía Cervecera Receives European Business World Award for its Commitment to the Environment and Sustainability (Translation)

In the context of the fourteenth edition of distinctions awarded to organizations and institutions of the autonomous communities

- The prize seeks to recognize the efforts developed by institutions and businesses within different autonomous communities of the country.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, March 9, 2011.- Compañía Cervecera de Canarias (the Canary Island Beer Company) has been one of the businesses to be awarded a prize in the Fourteenth Edition of European Business World Awards "for its commitment to the environment and sustainability."

Regarding this, the event organizer indicated that Compañía Cervecera, "In 2010, reached its goal of sustainable development with an investment in this instalment equivalent to 15 percent of its exploitation benefit, with a global sum of 2.8 million euros." Likewise, the goal reached by the company stands out for "boosting local business development in the area."

Compañía Cervecera's commitment to sustainable development is reflected by achievements like a five percent reduction in water consumption during the past year, a 5.53 percent reduction in total fuel use, as well as the contribution of renewable energy via a biogas plant and the implementation of various projects designed to diminish energy use.

Along with this, there is a bottle policy centred on the most respectable containers for the environment, such as returnable ones, with an index of 61 percent as compared to 50 percent for the rest of the beer industry in the country.

The European Business World Awards were created fourteen years ago for the purpose of recognizing the important efforts of organizations and businesses of each and every of the autonomous communities. The selection of the prize-winners is made by the selfsame publication as well as a group of external consultants.

Aside from the Compañía Cervecera de Canarias, the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energy (ITER in Spanish) is the other Canary Island organization which has been distinguished with the European Business World Award, considered within the investigation of renewable energy. Compañía Cervecera is one of the most important beer producers on a national level and one of the main generators of economic and social development on the Canary Islands.
