Comment by CEO
Gary Haigh, CEO of Kompania Piwowarska: "We have concluded the calendar year of 2009 by achieving the biggest market share in the history of our company. In the past year, we have managed to achieve record market share for our brands, which is a significant accomplishment when the industry itself suffered serious losses as a result of excise tax increases and the economic crisis.
In that period, Kompania Piwowarska has gone through many organizational changes which allowed us to react quickly to rapidly changing conditions in the macroeconomic environment. As a result, we entered the year 2010 as a much stronger organism."
Sales results and market share
Kompania Piwowarska SA (owned by the Group SABMiller plc), in the 12 months between January and December 2009, reached the sales of 14.6 M hectoliters on the national market. These results are 3 % lower than the ones registered in the previous year. Overall, the industry's sales decreased in Poland within that period by 10% and reached circa 32.2 M hl. The decrease was mainly a result of the increase of excise tax (by 13.6%) introduced in March 2009, which strongly influenced beer price.
Within the 12 months of 2009, KP increased its market share of the Polish beer market and reached the level of 45.3% (from 42.2% in 2008) thus expanding its advantage over their closest competitor by more than 10%.
All the main brands of Kompania Piwowarskaj increased their market share. Tyskie is the best selling Polish beer and it increased its market share to 18%, while the second place in the national market is occupied by Żubr (market share of 14%). Lech is the third best selling beer from the KP portfolio, with a market share of 8%.
