Industrias La Constancia Launches Its Sustainable Development Program, Identify Yourself with El Salvador (Translation)

San Salvador - February 8, 2010. Today, Industrias La Constancia presented its Identify Yourself with Your Country program, which falls within its corporate Sustainable Development Policy and its Responsible Consumption priority. La Constancia seeks to prevent the sale of beer to minors in San Salvador, Santa Tecla and Soyapango by offering educational programs and social work aimed to schools, businesses and local government.
This long-term program will begin with a pilot program that will run in partnership with Glasswing International, which bases its application in the creation of committees in each community that will work on the following: promoting the implementation of laws in relation to consumption and alcohol sale only to adults, training of 1,000 sale representatives with an specialized methodology that seeks to prevent alcohol sale to minors and offering one-day educational programs to 2,500 youth, parents and teachers to equip them with preventing tools.
The duration of the pilot program is one year and it seeks to become a permanent contribution that will lay the foundations of prevention of beer consumption in minors.
San Salvador's Mayor, Dr. Norman Quijano, Soyapango's Mayor, Mr. Carlos Ruiz and Santa Tecla's Mayor, Mr. Oscar Ortiz were present at the launching event. Santa Tecla is the place where the pilot program will be carried out. Also, representatives of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, the government, international help organizations, charitable organizations and the academic sector were present at the event.
Two presentations were given at the event. One of them was in charge of Carlos Sojo from FLACSO who presented a study on "Alcohol consumption patterns in El Salvador". The second was given by Dr. José María Sifontes who spoke about experiences on how to reduce abusive alcohol consumption.
Parallel to the social program, ILC will air a communication campaign that seeks to promote public awareness that preventing beer consumption in minors is everyone's responsibility: parents, teachers, businesses and authorities, among others.
With this program, Industrias La Constancia reiterates its commitment to the people and the country of El Salvador as well as its strong support for the country's sustainable development.
