Plzenský Prazdroj and Its Employees Helped in Reconstruction after Damage Caused by Flood (Translation)

11 August 2009

Nošovice, 6. 8. 2009 - Plzenský Prazdroj and its employees contributed a total of 900,000 Czech crowns (51, 840 US$) for reconstruction of areas that sustained damage from a flood in the Western part of Moravia during June and July. The money was donated by employees from all three breweries and from thirteen business distribution centres. After this, Plzeňský Prazdroj doubled the total and rounded it up. The fund will be send to an account for floods at the humanitarian organisation People in Need. Presently, experts from the organisation are selecting buildings which will be reconstructed with the help of these donations. The donation will probably help in reconstruction of public buildings such as schools and fire houses.

"Our employees showed an unusual level of solidarity. Managers, as well as people from the filling room or from the digester house, were competing over who would donate how much, and one could see in all of them their determination to help. I would like to thank them for this from the bottom of my heart," says Ivo Kaňák, manager of the Nošovice production.

The funds were collected for the flood victims in the middle of July, and employees from all of Plzenský Prazdroj took part. The monetary donations were slightly under 400,000 Czech crowns (23, 040 US$). In total 1,011 employees of the Plzenský Prazdroj contributed. The doubled and rounded-up amount will be deposited by the Plzeňský Prazdroj to the account of the humanitarian organisation People in Need.

"Unlike the first wave of liquidation, when buildings needed to be dried, and first aid was necessary, right now the necessary funds will go to reconstruction and renovation of damaged buildings. Thanks to donations such as that from the Plzenský Prazdroj and its employees, we can now finance reconstruction of entire buildings," explains Martina Břeňová from People in Need, an aid organisation.

Experts from People in Need are currently examining the level of damage directly in Jesenicko, Novojičínsko and Děčínsko and will select buildings which are best suited for help from donations. "The donation from the Prazdroj can, for example, help with the reconstruction of a boiler room at an elementary school. The funds can help finance reconstruction of a fire house for voluntary fire fighters, who also help with flood damage. Another venue could be, for example, a public workshop, where one of the municipalities organises community service," adds Martina Břeňová. The buildings in need of reconstruction will be selected within fourteen days, but the funds were sent as soon as possible.
