Cyril Ramaphosa joined the board of The South African Breweries Limited in 1997 and was appointed to the board of South African Breweries plc upon its listing on the London Stock Exchange in 1999. He is the current deputy president of the African National Congress (ANC). He is the founder and Chairman of Shanduka Group and holds directorships in MTN Group Ltd, The Bidvest Group, Standard Bank and Alexander Forbes. Formerly a director of Mondi plc and Lonmin plc, he was Secretary General of the ANC from 1991 to 1997 and was Chairman of the Constitutional Assembly, which negotiated South Africa's first democratic constitution.

In light of the increasing amount of time which he will need to devote to his public service commitments, he will not be seeking re-election as a director and will retire from the board at the annual general meeting in July 2013.
