History

1931

Accra Brewery Limited (ABL) is established as Overseas Brewery Limited – the first brewery built in the European tradition in West Africa.

1933-45

Club Lager becomes the first local Ghanaian clear beer brand and proves popular throughout West Africa during the Second World War. Club Minerals included Colas, Ginger Ale, Quinine Tonic and Muscatella.

1995-97

ABL is listed in 1995. South African Breweries acquires nearly 70% of the shares and a management contract in 1997.

2009

SABMiller acquires majority stake in Voltic - the market leader in bottled water production in Ghana with an 85% share of the mineral water market.

2011

ABL is delisted with SABMiller taking full ownership.

US$260m investment programme to fund capacity expansion in Uganda, Ghana, Zambia and Tanzania announced in November.
