Backus rewards participants of Motupe workshop Progressing Together completes training of entrepreneurial women

Chiclayo, June 5, 2009.  Progressing Together, a development program for micro, small and medium-sized companies, held a closing ceremony for the Workshop for Strengthening the Abilities of Entrepreneurial Women, which 65 participants attended, in the community of Motupe.

The event took place at the Backus plant in Motupe, where authorities and representatives of the brewing company were present.

In addition to receiving certificates for attending the course, which included 43 hours of training, women visited the brewing plant and enjoyed a local lunch and show offered by Backus to celebrate the completion of the course. 

The course took place in the municipality of Motupe, twice a week in sessions of about six hours.  During the four weeks of class, participants received training in motivation, self-esteem and leadership, quality, values, and cost and budget management. 

The goal of the workshop is to achieve the development of micro and small businesses by teaching useful tools for personal growth to women and their families, training them to be instruments of development for the city. 

As the certificates of participation were being handed out, Mr. Fernando Hilbck, Backus Director of Corporate Affairs, said, "We are convinced that this program contributes to the development of business management skills for the women of Motupe and environs."

Progressing Together is a development program for entrepreneurs of micro, small and medium-sized companies in the agricultural, service, commercial and tourism sectors in Backus' geographical area of influence.

With this program, Backus aims to improve the efficiency, productivity, and environmental and social conditions of micro, small and medium business.  Backus aims to create opportunities for local sustainable development in terms of market development, job and wellness creation, and to achieve better economic and social integration of Backus on a national and international level.

Since the program began in March 2008, Progressing Together has performed skills training for 180 suppliers in the cities of Lima, Trujillo, Chiclayo, Cusco, Piura and Arequipa, 60 distribution entrepreneurs  in the cities of Lima and Piura, 60 customers in the cities of Huancayo and Piura, 60 artisans in Huaca de la Luna, 25 artisans at the Túcume Pyramids and 65 mothers in the Motupe District.  The program has also worked on abilities and management development techniques with approximately 190 corn producers of the Jequetepeque Valley.
