San Salvador, April 23, 2009. The Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) and the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) awarded a recognition to Industrias La Constancia for its participation in the National Recovery and Recycling of Plastics Program.
This joint recycling initiative began in 2001, with the goal of facilitating packaging companies' participation in alternative solutions to the problem of post-consumer plastic waste. ILC joined the program in 2003, committing itself to the retrieval and recycling of plastic packaging.
Currently, ILC is helping to reduce the impact of packaging waste with its post-industrial recycling program, which has been completely implemented in the beer plant, and is beginning operations in the soft drink and ice-making plant.
The MARN and MSPAS recognition was awarded to 50 companies, which collectively retrieved a total of 2,178.30 tons of post-consumer plastics in 2008. Industrias La Constancia collected 45% of that total. This amount has prevented the emission of 1,485 tons of CO2 into the environment, saved 10,890 barrels of oil, and prevented 990 tons of landfill waste.
