Industrias La Constancia joins Earth Hour
30 March 2009
San Salvador, March 27, 2009. Industrias La Constancia (ILC), member of the initiative El Salvador Verde (Green El Salvador), announced today that it will join the WWF's international campaign "Earth Hour" to contribute in raising awareness about climate change.
ILC was recently recognized by the Comisión Centroamericana de Ambiente y Desarrollo (Central American Environment and Development Committee) with the award for cleaner production. With today's announcement, ILC reaffirms that one of the priorities in its sustainable development policy is to reduce the company's energy and carbon footprint. As an example of this commitment, ILC has promoted and implemented energy-efficient processes which have reduced energy consumption in its brewing plants by 50% since 2001.
During Earth Hour, between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. this Saturday, March 28, ILC will turn off the lights in its head office, as well as the lights in its beer, soft drink, water and juice plants.
"We hope to help create awareness about the responsibility that we, as individuals, companies and society in general, have to the environment, particularly in the reduction of energy consumption, one of the main causes of global warming. We invite other companies to join this initiative, and to join in the search for new energy-efficient alternatives every day," said José Carlos Bonilla, ILC Vice President of Corporate Relations.
