SABMiller plc appoints Managing Director of Russian operations

7 September 2006

London and Johannesburg, 7 September 2006. SABMiller plc, one of the world’s leading brewers, announces the appointment of James Wilson as Managing Director of TransMark and Kaluga Brewing Company, the group’s operations in Russia. Mr Wilson replaces Ari Mervis who recently was appointed to manage Pacific Beverages Ltd., a joint venture between SABMiller and Coca-Cola Amatil in Australia.

James Wilson joined SABMiller from Scottish & Newcastle plc in February 2005. Prior to his new role, he served as Senior Vice-President Market Development and Strategy for Miller Brewing Company in the US and as Director of Strategic Projects for the group based in London. At Scottish & Newcastle, Mr Wilson held various senior international strategy positions after his appointment in 2001 from Rémy Cointreau.

SABMiller continues to focus on the premium segment in Russia with brands such as Miller Genuine Draft, Redd’s, Velkopopovicky Kozel and local premium beer Zolotaya Bochka. Volumes in the financial year to 31 March 2006 increased 14% doubling the industry growth and helping it to achieve a share of 15% of the profit pool despite its 5% volume share.

Alan Clark, Managing Director of SABMiller Europe, commented:

“James brings a wealth of senior management experience to Russia from his long history within the beverage industry. This coupled with his extensive financial background will help our operations in Russia continue to outperform the market by driving value and volume growth. I look forward to working with him, and I join my colleagues in welcoming James to Moscow.”
