Compañía Cervecera Reinforces Its Commitment to Recycle. 97% of All Its Waste Is Recycled
20 May 2013
Today it’s World Recycling Day
- The company is giving priority to this matter because the Canary Islands, being a group of islands far away from the mainland, face great restrictions in waste management
- 59% of the containers commercialized by Compañía Cervecera are reusable, exceeding the industry average nationwide by 12 points
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, May 16th 2013.- The commitment reached in the better use and reuse of waste to promote the care of the environment is one of the priorities Compañía Cervecera de Canarias has been working on, allowing it to reach a recycling rate of 97% last year.
Coinciding with the celebration of World Recycling Day tomorrow, Compañía Cervecera makes an appeal to increase the efforts in waste management, especially considering the existing restrictions in this field in a place like the Canary Islands, a group of islands far away from the continent.
As part of its commitment to recycle, Compañía Cervecera has started different lines of action in recent years regarding the use of containers and packaging. Among those lines of action, it is worth mentioning an increase in the use of returnable containers, making Compañía Cervecera a reference company in its sector, as it commercializes 59% of its products in reusable containers, exceeding the industry average in Spain by 12 points.
Reducing the environmental impact of the containers is another aspect taken into account by the company. This is being done through different actions like reducing the weight of the reusable bottles by 17%, standardising labels, eliminating painted plastics and getting rid of the PVC in the caps of the 33 centilitre bottles.
Compañía Cervecera has incorporated a sustainability strategy so the chosen containers reconcile the requirements of the company with the market tendencies, the preference of consumers, the conditions of the selling points and the integral system of waste management.
Also, it separates 100% of the waste generated in the production process of the containers.
In addition to these measures, Compañía Cervecera keeps supporting the development of new actions in order to continue to make progress in the “reduce, reuse and recycle” principle. In this case, the company works in finding measures that reduce the amount of materials used in the fabrication of containers and packaging.
