- The company has shown repeatedly its commitment to the challenge of addressing the HIV virus and Aids

- SABMiller group, which Compañía Cervecera is a part of, has made fighting the illness one of its priorities, taking into account its wide presence in the countries affected by this pandemic

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, November 30th, 2012 - Coinciding with the celebration of World AIDS Day, which takes place tomorrow, Compañía Cervecera de Canarias joins in efforts for the prevention of the illness. The company is showing its support by collaborating with the charity race organised by Unión para la Ayuda y Protección de los afectados por el VIH/Sida (Unapro), which will take place tomorrow, from 20:15 in La Laguna.

Also, the company has carried out an awareness campaign among its employees, distributing information about HIV, the different ways it is transmitted and preventative measures to be taken.

This action is also part of a wider program of actions implemented by the SABMiller group, the parent group to which the company belongs, which has made fighting Aids one of its main priorities, in part because of the wide presence of the company in some of the countries affected by the pandemic, especially those in Africa.

Compañía Cervecera has shown its commitment to the challenge of addressing HIV and Aids, a problem that affects around 34 million people globally, and which led to 2.5 million new infections and 1.7 million related deaths last year alone.

The presence of SABMiller in Africa is a reminder that a commitment must be made to help curb the progression of this disease, which has already spread to other continents including the Americas (where it has taken root in the Latin American community), as well as India and Eastern Europe.

In this regard, the group is carrying out educational programs among its employees and the community, as well as contributing to the Health Systems in those countries where the prevalence of HIV/Aids is higher than 5%, as is the case in South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, Uganda, Angola and Tanzania, as well as providing advice and voluntary diagnostic tests for employees and their partners in the areas where it is higher than 1%.
