Lima, July 11th, 2012 - Starting September 1st and for a period of four weeks, the El Comercio Seedbed - Maltin Power Cup will be held in the cities of Lima and Chiclayo. Up to 128 teams in Lima and 8 teams in Chiclayo will be participating. This championship seeks to support the development of outstanding young talent in this competition.

El Comercio newspaper and the Backus Foundation have joined in this effort since they share the same goal: To contribute to youth development through the promotion of values and sports training.

Mr. Francisco Miró Quesada, Editor of El Comercio, mentioned that the newspaper has encouraged the programme Seedbed for 26 years because not only it is a singular competition but because of its commitment to the nation. We are convinced that we can direct the community, youth in particular, to learn through sports how to practise civic duties and rights, to comply with these values and help the stability of the family unit.

Also, as Mrs. Malena Morales Valentín, Executive Director of Backus Foundation expressed, "Backus is an enterprise that has always been committed to Peruvian sports. We seek to develop strategic alliances with different social actors to promote healthful lifestyles through the promotion of sports, which facilitates personal interaction and socialization as well as the development of values from an early age."

In addition to the championship, the Backus Foundation will invite parents as well as trainers of registered teams to participate in a lecture delivered by specialists. This will make it possible for them to learn some of the tools to promote the development of social skills in youth, to strengthen the athletes' self-esteem and confidence and to teach them to evaluate risk situations and make informed and appropriate decisions.
