Compañía Cervecera has reduced its CO2 emissions by 30% in the last three years (Translation)

- Improving the processes and the introduction of machinery to improve efficiency are some of the aspects that the organisation has put its emphasis on to improve the results

Canarias, June 4th, 2012 - Coinciding with the celebration, tomorrow, of the World Environment Day, Compañía Cervecera de Canarias has ratified its support for the protection of the environment with the implementation of a wide program of actions addressed to reduce energy consumption. Its effects have been seen and have been translated in a decrease of CO2 emissions by 30% due to fuel usage during the last three years. 

Also, regarding the energetic ussage, the data shows a drop of 4% during last year, reaching 130.54 per megajoules per hectolitre, as opposed to 136.19 from last year.

The improvements reached are due to the various actions carried out by Compañía Cervecera de Canarias to reduce its energetic footprint. Among these actions are the replacement of the evaporative condensers for more efficient ones, the isolation of pipes with hot and cold fluids, as well as actions directed to improve the production process, like the cold audits or the decrease in the steam pressure and the boiling time of the cast wort per brew.

The support of Compañía Cervecera for the environmental conservation is evident in the water consumption, with a drop of 9% during last year, reaching 4.29 litres of water per litre of beer, in line with the objective of 3.5 litres for 2015.

Other of the lines in which Compañía Cervecera is intensifying its efforts is in the improvement of the packaging management and the packaging materials, through measures that allowed segregating 100% of the disposable components of packaging for its recycling. To this has to be added an exhaustive analysis in the packaging materials selection according to their environmental impact, as well as promoting the use of returnable packaging, an aspect in which the company slightly exceeds the rest of the sector, with a percentage of 59% of the total, as opposed to the 48% of the average.

The use of bagasse for animal consumption and agricultural compost make another of the investments of Compañía Cervecera to reduce its environmental impact, which allows achieving 97% of waste recycling.
