Backus receives the “Luis Hochschild Plaut” Award (Translation)
14 December 2011
- The award ceremony took place on Friday, December 2nd at CADE 2011 in Cusco.
- This award, established by IPAE, emphasizes the contribution of the private sector in the development of the education and spread of the art and culture of our country.
Lima, November 12th, 2011- Within the framework of the CADE 2011 business meeting that took place in Cusco, IPAE presented the "Luis Hochschild Plaut" award to Backus in recognition of its business contribution in the promotion of Peruvian art and culture.
The person receiving the award was Felipe Cantuarias, Planning and Corporate Matters Vice-President, who pointed out: In Backus, we are constantly looking for innovation in everything we do, and proof of that is the award that we receive today. It represents an innovative management model for our cultural heritage, which boosts our culture in base to an integrated and sustainable management of the historic heritage, the tourism and employment generation.
Backus received this important award thanks to the corporate social investment programme for the promotion of economic development through the support of cultural monuments: Huacas de Sol, Moon in Freedom, and the Túcume Pyramids in Lambayeque.
The programme's objective is to research, preserve, and consolidate archaeological sites and cultural spaces as first-class tourist attractions. In this way, some magnificent monuments in the north of the country have been rescued, monuments that have received 120,000 tourists every year, thus generating jobs and the development of the community around them and neighbouring cities.
It is worth mentioning that these successful results wouldn't have been possible without the group work of their allies in this project: Trujillo National University, Huacas del Valle de Moche Council in Trujillo, Túcume Museum, Valle de las Pirámides de Lambayeque Council, and also the Peru France Contravalue Fund and the World Monuments Fund.
The Union of Peruvian Breweries and Johnston is the industry leader in Peru, with 5 decentralised production plants in Lima, Arequipa, Cusco, Motupe and Pucallpa. It has a portfolio of well-segmented national and international brands that satisfies consumers in more than 142,000 selling points throughout the country. During 2010, Backus registered net sales of S/. 2,676.7 million, contributed to the Treasury with S/. 2,124 million, and directly gave jobs to more than 7000 people and indirectly to more than 220,000 people.
Backus works with a focus on sustainable development, with the goal of generating shared value with the people that are part of its value chain and the communities in which it operates. That is why all its initiatives and projects aim towards generating social inclusion and strategic alliances to favour those efforts and achieve a greater impact in economic, social and environmental terms for the society as a whole.
