In honour of our Olympic athletes… Backus celebrates 75 years of Peruvian participation in the Olympic Games (Translation)

- Peru participated for the first time at the Berlin Olympics in 1936
- It has won four Olympic medals throughout the years
- It won its first gold medal in the shooting competition in London in 1948
- The event will bring together important athletes and city authorities

Lima, August 10, 2011 - In coordination with the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Backus held a gala event at the Miraflores Park Hotel to commemorate the history of Peruvian Olympic athletes, who, over the last 75 years, have promoted the patriotic colours at the most important games in the world.

Athletes, coaches and important national leaders were present at the event, as well as various political authorities associated with the promotion of sports and culture. Also present were Mr. Felipe Cantuarias Salaverry, Backus' vice president of planning and corporate affairs, and Mr. Jorge Arriola, Backus' representative, who has been honoured by various institutions for his continued support and promotion of Peruvian sports.

The event's agenda included speeches by special guests, reminiscences of significant events in the history of Peruvian athletes, and a display of commemorative Olympic paraphernalia. At the end of the event, Backus gave Mr. Fermin Chumpitaz, president of the Peruvian Special Olympics, a TV and a laptop to be used in the internal activities of the institution.
