AmsterdaMusic, a music contest sponsored by Miller Brands Ukraine, started in July 2011 in the Ukraine. Lavina Digital is a musical partner of the project.
AmsterdaMusic is a national indie music contest. The word "indie" is derived from "independent" and denotes non-commercial and non-mainstream musicians and music genres. The contest is sponsored by the beer brand Amsterdam Mariner.
Any Ukrainian bands and singers can participate in the AmsterdaMusic contest if they perform at least one original song. The winners will be determined by listeners' votes, hence beginners and professionals have an equal chance of winning the contest. To participate in the contest, register at http://amsterdamusic.com.ua and upload a maximum of three original musical pieces.
There are three categories in the contest: Indie Rock, Indie Pop and Indietronica. Winners in each category will be awarded a prize according to their music genre. Indietronica winners will receive KRK Systems studio monitors, Indie Rock winners will be awarded a Fender Road Worn Player Stratocaster guitar, Indie Pop winners will get a Shure KSM electronic microphone. Besides the main prize for their category, each winner will also be awarded a single recording contract with Lavina Digital.
The winners of the contest will be determined in an open vote by the site visitors. To vote for their favourite songs, the site visitors will have to sign in using their personal profiles on Facebook or Vkontakte. Each visitor may vote for as many songs as desired, but only once for each song.
Sign in is not necessary to listen to the songs. There is open access to all participating tracks, which are available through a built-in music player for those interested in being introduced to Ukrainian non-commercial music.
"The idea for launching the AmsterdaMusic contest came to us through the Amsterdam Mariner brand concept," states Lessia Stekhun, marketing manager of Miller Brands Ukraine. "Amsterdam Mariner is the beer of trendsetters choosing their own paths and creating new things. Indie musicians do exactly this by creating free independent music."
The contest is open till the end of the day on September 12, 2011. Winners will receive awards on September 18 at Art-Club 44 in Kiev.
