With the 50th Anniversary of “La Pollera Colora”, Águila took over the Barranquilla Carnival (Translation)

23 February 2010

Barranquilla, February 17th, 2010. Águila, Sin Igual y Siempre Igual, celebrated the Barranquilla Carnival in style, to the sound of "La Pollera Colorá", on its 50th anniversary. All the activities of the preferred Colombian beer revolved around this masterwork of the local folklore and extended to cover the provincial department of Atlántico until the end of festivities.

A collectable can
The taste of Águila and "La Pollera Colorá" took over the streets of Barranquilla with a commemorative can specially designed by the brand for this occasion, which reminded visitors and Barranquilleros of the lyrics to one of the most representative songs in the country. Likewise, during the carnival days, radio stations played a very catchy and modern version of "La Pollera" performed by DJ Gabo, which was widely accepted by the audience.

Tribute to Wilson Choperena
On Wednesday, the 10th of February, Águila paid tribute to Wilson Choperena, author of the "La Pollera Colorá" lyrics, and the song's first local performer, who contributed to its immortalization in the Barranquilla Carnival. The event was held at the Gran Salón of Hotel El Prado, in recognition of his life and work and to his valuable contribution to Caribbean folklore. Giselle Marie Lacouture, Carnival Queen, sang a special version of "La Pollera" produced by Nicolás Tovar, the renowned musician from Barranquilla -- who worked with Emilio Estefan for more than ten years. The Fundación Banda de Baranoa and folkloric group "La Pollera Colorá" also added their flavor to this program, and led all attendees to the dance floor "to the sound of the drums".

Águila at the Batalla de Flores (Flowers Battle)
As usual, every Carnival Saturday, Águila decked out the Batalla de Flores with its traditional float inspired by the 50 years of "La Pollera Colorá". Once again, Checo Acosta was in charge of cheering up all attendees with his energy, together with Silvana, Catalina, Milena and Alexandra, the new Chicas Águila. They were accompanied by the folkloric group "La Pollera Colorá". Wilson Choperena also attended the Águila Stand in Vía 40.

The Chicas Águila with shopkeepers
The Chicas Águila 2010 were charged with the responsibility to take the taste of Águila to shops and supermarkets during the carnival. They were on the street during the carnival days, and visited a large number of shops and supermarkets to train their owners on how to improve the brand sales and exhibition. These visits were also the right time for Águila beer followers and lovers from Barranquilla to share with them and to receive from them promotional brand material.
