19 February 2010

El Salvador - February 17, 2010

Today, during a press conference, El Salvador's Minister of Tourism, José Napoleon Duarte, joined by Ilopango's Mayor, Dr. Alba Elizabeth Márquez and the Vice-president of Industrias La Constantia, José Carlos Bonilla, announced the beginning of the reconstruction of one of the most important touristic parks of El Salvador: the Complejo Turístico de Apulo.

The park, which annually receives more than 150,000 visitors, was seriously damaged by the tropical storm IDA just last year, leaving the building's infrastructure, businesses and houses around it uninhabitable.

The project seeks to restore the existing infrastructure in order to upgrade its services and to build new additional facilities to make the park a modern and pleasant place for Salvadoran families.

The park renovation has been planned in phases. The first one will include the remodeling of the main entrance, the construction of a modern boardwalk, courts, a lighthouse, a pier and various food and drinks sales points. The cost for this first phase is estimated at $600,000.

As part of its sustainable development policy, and particularly its priority to benefit the communities it serves, Industrias La Constancia will make a donation of $80,000 which will be used in the park's first phase. The money will be destined to the improvement of businesses inside the park and the installation of modern recreational games that will make the park more interesting.

The overall project will create more than 200 direct jobs and more than 600 indirect jobs. It is expected that after the remodeling, the park will receive more than 400,000 visitors annually.
