Bavaria best practices for water preservation, base of global partnership between SABMiller and WWF (Translation)

11 December 2009

Bogotá, December 9th, 2009. The recent partnership signed between SABMiller and WWF (World Wide Fund For Nature) under the name Water Futures - which seeks to tackle water scarcity in the countries where the company operates - adopted as its work base, among others, the best practices of Bavaria regarding the preservation of this liquid in Colombia, as well as those in the operations of Honduras and El Salvador. These best practices will allow a better understanding of the risks posed by a predicted water stress situation in Peru, Tanzania, South Africa and Ukraine.

In Colombia, Bavaria's experience, together with WWF, is focused on research carried out under the name "Case study on the economic importance for Bavaria to preserve its hydrographical basins", which has demonstrated, through the implementation of mathematical models of economic damage, the importance for the company's business to carry out or co-participate in projects aimed at preserving such hydro-geographical areas. One of these mathematical models was applied at Cervecería del Valle and the stretch between the Cauca River in Cali to Puerto Isaacs.

The partnership between SABMiller and WWF will examine groundbreaking approaches to water management. These will include:

- A robust supply-chain engagement strategy based on clear insights into both the business and conservation water risks throughout the value chain, identifying risk hotspots.
- Delivery of measurable conservation impacts through improved policy for, and management of, freshwater ecosystems.
- Sharing of best practices between SABMiller's 75 operating countries to provide technical support on common issues and enable knowledge exchange.
- Sharing of lessons with other stakeholders at the global level with a view to promoting better management of water across the world.

According to Fernando Jaramillo, Vice President of Corporate Affairs in Bavaria, "We are extremely proud at Bavaria. The fact that the base of this important world agreement includes our Cauca River basin protection project implemented through Cervecería del Valle is a huge success. Let this be the opportunity to appeal to the industry, the government and all citizens to positively change our water consumption habits and protect our basins, because, although this is one of the wealthiest countries in terms of water sources, this may drastically change if we do not enforce actions. Our deepest gratitude to WWF for all the support provided. We will continue working with them for the benefit of the future of our water resources".

This project between SABMiller and WWF also includes the support of the German Cooperation agency GTZ (Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit), which acts on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of the German Federal German Government, which seeks to provide political, economic, ecologic and social development solutions.
