SABMiller appoints Senior Vice President of Industry Affairs

SABMiller today announces that Mike Short, previously CEO and Managing Director of its Czech subsidiary Plzeňský Prazdroj, has been appointed to the newly created group role of Senior Vice-President, Industry Affairs.

Reporting to Corporate Affairs Director, Sue Clark, he will steer the development and implementation of SABMiller's policies in the areas of alcohol self-regulation, industry accountability and the impact on the company of legislation.  In this role, Mike will oversee and build on the positive work done in the area of alcohol responsibility and impact analysis by SABMiller's Alcohol Policy and Licence to Trade teams, as well as supporting the Company in its engagement with international stakeholders, national governments and relevant NGOs.

Mike has 21 years experience in the brewing industry.  Prior to his five years as CEO of the Czech Republic's largest brewing company, he was Managing Director of SABMiller's Hungarian subsidiary, Dreher Breweries, which followed on from 6 years on the Board of SAB Ltd., South Africa. 

Earlier work experience was in line management, consulting and training in areas related to marine and aeronautical engineering and nuclear power generation. Mike has lived and worked in 7 countries and began his career as a Royal Naval officer in nuclear submarines.
