Quality Confirmed by Certificates (Translation)

14 August 2009

Kompania Piwowarska has received certificates confirming beer production is in accordance with the highest standards of quality and safety. The official presentation of the certificates took place in the company's headquarters in Poznań on August 11.

Restrictive internal standards regarding quality and safety of the products, as well as environmental protection and work safety have been applied in Kompania Piwowarska for years. The Company is in the possession of three systems now (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 2200), based on the international standards within the integrated risk management system (IRMS).  IRMS facilitates management of all the systems and a conscious realization of its principles by all employees.   Implementation of ISO norm requirements is a very complex process, while maintaining them and perfecting the implemented systems is a constant process that does not end with the reception of a certificate.

As a socially responsible company, Kompania Piwowarska does everything possible to prevent every risk that might be encountered by our clients, consumers of our products, our own employees at work, as well as our environment and our neighbors, says Dorota Latus-Ziętkiewicz, Director for Quality, Safety and Environment Systems. Preparation, implementation and certification of the Integrated Risk Management System is a great challenge for the whole organization, but it brings positive effects and from the perspective of time it can be clearly seen to have brought positive changes on every level of the organization activities, adds Latus-Ziętkiewicz.

In April this year, the system audits for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 22000 were concluded and as a result the company received, among others, a certificate of management compliance with the norms ISO 9001:2009.  The system of quality management has been implemented and perfected in Kompania Piwowarska for many years. In 2007, it was positively evaluated by external auditors but never formally certified until April.

Also positive were the results of the ISO 14001 system audit which deals with environment management and whose goal is the realization of a continuous improvement in environmental care.  Implementation of the environment management system allows for, among others, adjusting the production to the changing legal requirements, clients' needs, and global ecological challenges, e.g. climatic changes, which all businesses must deal with.
Kompania Piwowarska, in accordance with the company's policy, has for years conducted environmental activities in an orderly and systematic manner," says Witold Dżugan, external auditor.  In the year 2007, it was approved by a certification of the environment management system, done by Bureau Veritas Certification, one of the most recognized certification granting organizations. The April audit confirmed the effective functioning of the environment management system in all fields of activities, as a result of comprehensive knowledge and practical implementation of the system's   requirements," comments Dżugan.

See awarding of ISO certificates:

In July 2006, Kompania Piwowarska received the first certificate confirming the implementation of the Food Safety Management System according to the norms of ISO 22000:2005.  The Company successfully went through a recertification process and received a certificate for the upcoming three years.
The implementation and continual perfecting of the food safety management system, which combines  the requirements of the HACCP system and the Good Practices (in terms of production, hygiene and distribution) allows for the production and distribution of products preferred by customers, with high and stable quality and health safety. An effective communication with all sides of the food chain, the compliance with the domestic and European legal requirements regarding quality and health safety of food, and the perfecting of activities connected with the production of safe food are the main elements of the system ISO 22 000, implemented and perfected at KP. Kompania Piwowarska is not only a producer of excellent beer but also a guarantor that the delivered product is safe, with the process having minimal impact on the environment," informs Sławomir Korycki, Manager for Quality and Safety of KP products.

Kompania Piwowarska continually perfects its systems.
We are taking on another challenge. This year, we started the implementation process of ISO 18001 that is the safety and work hygiene management system. The goal is to manage the processes in such a way as to constantly improve the safety and work hygiene of not only the employees of Kompania Piwowarska but also other people connected with all our breweries and branches which compose the group. The initial certification is planned as early as 2010," says Dorota Latus-Ziętkiewicz.

The system audits have been done by the Bureau Veritas Certification Polska Sp. z o.o., a certifying organization recognized all over the world, which provides comprehensive services and certifies in the field of quality, safety and work hygiene, responsible environmental actions and social responsibility.

ISO - a historical outline
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) was called to life in 1947. It is a non-government organization with its headquarters in Geneva, which has a network of national normalization institutes in 161 countries. Its main goal is to create and unify standards all over the world. However, the organization does not engage in verifying the standards or issuing certificates.

Creation of standards and their role
International norms are created on the basis of a consensus. Representatives of all the groups comprising a given sector, together with other groups of interest (including consumers), decide about the criteria, materials' specification, services, processes of testing and analysis, as well as the terminology connected with a given industry. Circa 30,000 experts are engaged in creating a standard, and they make up over 3,183 technical groups.
The norms create a backbone of a system and become a language which allows for the providers and receivers of the service to communicate. In other words, the norms allow for the trade and technology transfer. Norms make up the foundation for developing competition among the producers, while governments create legal guidelines on their basis. It is the consumers that gain the most, as the norms guarantee quality and safety of services and products.
ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 are the best known norms out of that family. ISO 9000 delineate the quality requirements in business, while ISO 14000 define environment protection norms.

ISO 9001:2008 - guarantees high and repeatable quality of products.  Apart from Poland, the certificate is also recognized in Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, USA, Italy, and Holland.

ISO 14001:2004 - is a system of environment management which allows for reaching business goals with full observance of the environment protection principles.

ISO 22000:2005  - is responsible for food safety.  It is to identify and control possible risks at every stage of food production and its storage.
