Lima, June 7, 2009. As part of the company's guiding priority of sustainable development, Backus is always looking for ways to support activities that protect the environment. As such, Backus and its business partner San Ignacio S.A. are implementing a tree planting project that is expected to be completed by March 2010. The objective is to plant more than 1000 trees in various districts of Lima and the provinces where San Ignacio delivers the company's products.
Staff from San Ignacio kicked off the project on Environment Day by hosting the first volunteer activity in Lima, together with the Municipality of Los Olivos' Sub Direction of Environmental Management. On this occasion 200 trees were planted in the settlements of Laura Caller, Alameda Villa Sol and Santa Elisa 2000 Housing Co-op, in the Los Olivos district.
Mr. Antonio Quintana Suárez, Distribution Manager of San Ignacio S.A., commented, "We are satisfied with the progress of this activity, in which our work with Los Olivos and Backus has allowed our workers and families to participate in these Environment Day activities and show their interest in improving their environment and surroundings."
To support this joint environmental project between the brewing company and its commercial partner, the employees of SISA are playing an important role in the creation of a collective fund to buy trees.
For Sunday's activity, San Ignacio moved the tree-planting materials to the activity zone and handed out water and soft drinks to the participating staff and their families.
