Backus improves quality of life of Motupe residents

4 May 2009

- Donates 12,000 US Dollars toward the Drinking Water and Sewer System Improvement and Extension Project.

Lambayeque, May 4, 2009.  Backus has donated 35,000 Peruvian Soles (12,000 US Dollars) to the Motupe district of Northern Peru for its Drinking Water and Sewer System Improvement and Extension Project.  The purpose of this donation is to improve the quality of life of Motupe district inhabitants.

The amount donated to the municipality of Motupe is key toward financing the Water and Drainage Project, which requires total funding of 21 million soles and is the most important local project in recent years.

"The project will serve and benefit the population of Motupe for many generations to come.  Its purpose is to replace the current obsolete system and provide water to the population for the majority of the day, since at this time the community only receives water service for four hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon," said Juan Carlos Zaplana, Backus Manager of Corporate Affairs, Northern Division.

The Drinking Water and Sewer System Improvement and Extension Project will benefit more than 4,150 households and 14,000 people, representing 60% of the district's population. Of the households that the project will reach, almost 1,000 do not currently receive water service at all.
