- It has been operating for more than a year and it is expected to be a referent for other companies operating in the area

Lima, November 26th, 2013.- Backus was recently awarded with the Premio Perú 2021 for Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development within the Environmental category for its Bioclimatic Distribution Center in Piura. This facility was able to reduce the consumption of water and energy, increase the green areas and minimize the generation of wastewater, aspects that generate positive benefits in the environment in which the company operates.

Augusto Rizo Patrón, Backus Vice President of Distribution, pointed out that “the investment in the construction and implementation of this Bioclimatic Distribution Center in Piura is an example that sustainable development is transversal and a priority for Backus; evidence of this is that we have taken advantage of the weather conditions and the resources available in the area to minimize the environmental impact. That is why we are very proud of receiving this award, which demonstrates our commitment to the environment.”

Since 2010, the Backus team conceived the idea of building a new distribution center that could consolidate the operations in Piura and Sullana. That’s why the company wanted the building to have modern and eco-friendly facilities, so the impact was minimal.

To meet these conditions, the company worked with specialists in Bioclimatic Architecture, which designs buildings considering the climatic conditions of the area. They took advantage of available resources like the sun, vegetation, rain and wind, among other aspects, in order to decrease the environmental impact.

It is worth mentioning that the award in the International Business category went to Cervecería Nacional de Ecuador, a subsidiary of SABMiller like Backus, for its program “Siembra Cebada”, (Plant barley). This program wants to enhance the quality of life of the farmers in the provinces of that country: Cachi, Imbabura and Pichincha. During 2012, 650 farmers participated and 1,977 acres of barley were planted.
