Accra Brewery and Graphic Provide Free Health Screening to Adabraka Residents
30 October 2013
Accra, Ghana. 9th September, 2013: In order to help improve the lives of the people living in the Adabraka community where Accra Brewery Limited and Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) operate, the two companies organised a free medical screening for people in the community on Saturday, 7th September, 2013.
Accra Brewery Limited has been in partnership with GCGL to conduct this medical screening for the Adabraka community for the past five years. The exercise, an annual event initiated in 2005 by GCGL, was patronised by hundreds of residents who enjoyed free dental treatment and general medical treatment. Those with serious health conditions were referred to hospitals.
Residents under 18 and over 70 years of age were also freely signed onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) as part of the drive to assist in the welfare of the Adabraka residents.
Speaking at the event, Gregory Metcalf, M.D. of Accra Brewery, said, “Health is an essential component in the development of every community. At Accra Brewery, we recognise that it makes commercial sense to invest in the well-being of the communities in which we operate because the prosperity of the community and our company are co-dependent.”
He added, “We will continue to support and actively participate in the sustainable development of our communities in all ways possible. Our appreciation goes to our partner in this exercise, Graphic Communications Group Limited, the medical personnel and our sister company, Voltic Ghana Limited, for donating natural mineral water to refresh all of the participants.”
During the health screening, Mr. Kenneth Ashigbey, Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Limited, said, “Graphic and Accra Brewery believe that the mark of any good corporate citizen is the willingness to contribute to the social and economic life of the very society that helps it make profit. This is why we found it appropriate to work with Accra Brewery to share our profits with you, the people of Adabraka - our landlord.”
In further comments, he said, “Graphic is grateful to you and your people for creating a peaceful atmosphere for us to do business here. The part we play in bringing this free healthcare to you therefore is our token expression of thanks to you for being our kind host.”
Accra Brewery’s Corporate Social Investment policy, amongst other goals, aims at improving the quality of life of local residents. Within its 82 years of operation, the company has provided deprived communities all over the country with portable water and educational facilities as well as other amenities.
