New Wave of Environmental Journalists Sweep Up SAB Environmental Media Awards 2013

16 October 2013

Johannesburg, 16th October 2013: At the South African Breweries (SAB) Environmental Media & Environmentalist of the Year Awards held earlier today, it was a new school of young journalists who reigned supreme.

The Star’s Kristen van Schie, the Mail & Guardian’s Sipho Kings, The Times’ Daniel Born and the SABC’s Minoshni Pillay all beat out fellow journalists to win most of the major categories.

Robyn Chalmers, SAB Corporate Communications Head, says: “This has been an incredible year for burgeoning talent. It’s encouraging to see that as much as these Awards applaud the best Environmental journalists in the country, it was also about inspiring new talent. We are delighted that we have such a great collection of young environmental journalists working in South Africa.”

Kings walked away with the Merit Winner for New Media & Online as well as the Winner of the Print Category. In addition he was awarded The Magqubu Ntombela & Ian Player Cub Award for the journalist with less than five years’ experience.

Previous Young Cub winner, Minoshni Pillay won the Radio Category, with newcomer Daniel Born winning Photography.
