Sinfonía Por El Perú Inaugurates a Workshop-School of Lutherie in Andahuaylillas, Huaro and Urcos
30 July 2013
- The 20 young people were selected to start the classes in the workshop-school of lutherie of the social project supported by the Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez.
- The Workshop School of Lutherie has the name of the dear and fondly remembered Mrs. Marcela Temple de Pérez de Cuellar who, as representative of World Monuments Fund in Peru, had an active participation in the achievement and the promotion of the churches that make up the Andean Baroque route.
Lima, July 25th, 2013 - In the San Juan Bautista de Huaro Parish –Cusco, the inaugural ceremony of the “Marcela Temple de Pérez de Cuellar’s Workshop School of Lutherie” took place, where the selected students that participate in this program and their parents were welcomed.
This workshop-school exists thanks to the commitment of Backus and the Society of Jesus, consisting of the Parishes of San Pedro Apóstol de Andahuaylillas and San Juan Bautista de Huaro. They are looking for the positive integration of its participants with their community, and the public exhibitions of the instruments created are part of the development of the workshop-school of lutherie.
As part of the ceremony, the kids who integrate the Child Orchestra of Núcleo Cusco from Sinfonía por el Perú and their teachers carried out a musical introduction, and Juan Diego Flórez gave a special speech via video. The event was attended by Mr. Miguel Molinari, Executive Director of Sinfonía por el Perú; Mr. Pablo Fernández, Director of Backus Corporative Brand; Father Carlos Silva, Priest of the San Pedro Apóstol de Andahuaylillas and San Juan Bautista de Huaro Parishes; and Mr. Carlos Gorveña, Principal of the Marcela Temple de Pérez de Cuellar’s Workshop School of Lutherie.
Sinfonía por el Perú is convinced that training in life values--such as discipline, excellence and teamwork--can be achieved through music which, accompanied with an environment of mysticism and joy, ensures a high degree of motivation. Without a doubt, the development in techniques for the construction and restoration of musical instruments and in values in these young people would be a moment of pride for their families and class mates, generating a multiplier effect in the community.
Meanwhile, Backus, as part of its Sustainable Development framework, wants to contribute to different sectors of society in order to generate development and transformation, emphasising the development of training for technical-productive and business management and local development through the conservation of cultural heritage. It’s participating in the project “Increasing employment through tourist development in Andahuaylillas, Huaro and Urcos - Quispicanchi, Cusco”, which was the winner of a competitive fund promoted by FONDOEMPLEO. This project seeks to develop service capabilities and strengthen tourism management for sightseeing, generating a longer stay and more spending among the visitors in this area, called the Andean Baroque, sponsored by the Society of Jesus.
