Trujillo, January 23, 2013 - Trujillo won a Guinness World Record by gathering 653 couples to dance the Marinera at the same time and in sync. In this way, the city of Trujillo achieved its first Guinness Record in an event sponsored by Pilsen Trujillo beer, the Marinera flagship brand.
1,306 people proudly danced the Trujillana’s Marinera in a Trujillo shopping centre’s courtyard. Ralph Hannah, Guinness World Records’ representative for Latin America, was in charge of verifying all evaluation criteria such as dress, dance quality, couples’ coordination and duration. They danced in sync for 5 minutes to “La Concheperla,” one of the most emblematic Marineras from the North.
The award was received by Christian Borja, CEO of Pilsen Trujillo, who thanked all participants by stating: “We’ve made history, now everybody is going to talk about the Marinera. This was possible thanks to everybody’s compromise and love for the Marinera. They, along with Pilsen Trujillo, took Trujillo and the Marinera to the top of the world elite”.
The event also included the participation of Marinera national champions, such as the renowned champion and instructor “Chino” Calderón. After the announcement, hundreds of participants gathered in a big hug and celebrated this certification with important guests like the Villacorta Brothers and the Pilsen Trujillo peña.
