Tropical joins the Womad Festival with two parades and the creation of a drop-off area (Translation)

14 November 2011

- The firm jumps the gun on the musical event with recreational activities to the rhythm of a Brazilian drum band marching through Triana, Mesa y López Streets  and Las Canteras Avenue on Friday and Saturday

- The drop-off area expects to collect around 20,000 plastic cups during the Festival

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, November 10th, 2011 - Tropical, a brand of Compañía Cervecera de Canarias and official sponsor of the World of Music Arts and Dance Festival (Womad), has organised two parades that will take place tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, on the main street of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria before the Festival starts. At the same time it will arrange a drop-off area during the festival for the collection of plastic cups.

The first of the scheduled activities will take place at 17:00 on Friday and for three hours, six Brazilian drummers, two stilt walkers, two jugglers and two acrobats will entertain people in the Triana area.

To this will be added a mobile photo booth where people will be invited to dress up and be photographed and the pictures taken will be posted on Tropical's Facebook page.

The parade will head back to the capital of Gran Canaria on Saturday, from 13:00 till 17:00, this time along Mesa y López Avenue and Las Canteras Avenue.

Meanwhile, Tropical will make available to festivalgoers a drop-off area to be located near the main stage of Womad in Santa Catalina Park, open from 22:00 on Saturday till 03:00 on Sunday.

In this case, a T-shirt specially designed for this musical event will be handed out for every five plastic cups that are taken to the drop-off area.

Once the event is over, the cups will be placed in two containers donated by the Gran Canaria City Hall so they can be recycled at a later time.

Tropical estimates that during this time around 20,000 cups will be recycled.

With these initiatives, Tropical wishes to promote among the festivalgoers the recycling of plastic cups, as well as helping in the cleanup of the premises where the festival takes place.

The collaboration of Tropical in the Womad Festival demonstrates the company's commitment to the project, seen in previous editions of the festival with the promotion of the cultural offerings of the city, especially with one of the main venues being Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

This time, the Womad Festival has been condensed to one day for the public to enjoy the music of 12 bands from ten different countries.
