Cerveceria Hondureña Honoured as the Industrial Enterprise of the Year (Translation)

28 October 2010

A new recognition

Cerveceria Hondureña received the INDUSTRIAL ENTERPRISE OF THE YEAR AWARD 2010 "MADE IN HONDURAS" awarded by the National Association of Industrialists (ANDI) and Young Industrialists (JOVIN).

This award aims to distinguish, in a public way, the effort, constancy of training, adaptation and daily improvement of companies, the people who make the institution as well as the contribution to economic development and the promotion of labour and innovation.

Cerveceria Hondureña has been an industrial leader since the early twentieth century, with the birth of Salva Vida beer in La Ceiba in 1916 and the Imperial beer in Tegucigalpa in 1930. It expanded into the area of soft drinks in 1928, when the production and marketing of Coca Cola began, and years later the Tropical brand.

Today, Cerveceria Hondureña operates a mega production plant in San Pedro Sula, where production is concentrated on the concept of world-class manufacturing supported by international certifications, ISO 9001, 14,001 and HACCP.

This company has demonstrated constant, responsible and disciplined work for years, both in industry and in its contribution to the community through sustainable development priorities and corporate social responsibility.

Reflecting this, business success has been achieved not only through economic growth but also through the tangible results of the implementation of projects for the environment, the country's natural resources, and its supply chain that many have benefited from, directly and indirectly.

These significant contributions to Honduras by Cerveceria Hondureña have produced important behavioral changes among the people, such as practising responsible consumption, showing a strong work ethic and caring for the environment. These activities serve as examples for other companies or institutions to replicate, producing a multiplier effect, which in the end will benefit all Hondurans.

Manuel Vallejo, Manufacturing Vice President of Cerveceria Hondureña, said, "No doubt our company throughout its existence has left a mark in Honduras and on Hondurans, in each of our processes, in our work relationships and commitment to our customers and suppliers."

"As our actions are framed by the principles of sustainable development and corporate social responsibility in interaction with the community and the environment, it leads us to conduct our efforts and actions towards the generation of development and a better future for this wonderful country," said Vallejo.

With the creation of the Industry of the Year award, the ANDI and JOVIN seek to highlight companies that place value in human resources and also to recognise the leadership, competitiveness and productivity of businesses and institutions that consistently contribute to the economic and social development of the country each year. It evaluates aspects such as: customer service quality; innovation; change and improvement in products and services through promotion of quality, efficiency and productivity; and corporate social responsibility.

Cerveceria Hondureña produces about 3,000 direct jobs and 15,000 indirect jobs, and their business influences almost 10% of the population. The operation represents 26.7% of the Manufacturing Gross Domestic Product and is among the major businesses that contribute to the treasury through taxes to the state, paying more than 2.300 million Lempiras this year.

The Industry of the Year Award reaffirms that what is "Made in Honduras" is something that each of us should be proud of, because it is our country which excels nationally and internationally, and in this case is reflected through Cerveceria Hondureña.
