Kompania Piwowarska, the largest brewing company in Poland, has been ranked second in the 2010 Responsible Companies Ranking prepared by the Responsible Business Forum and PricewaterhouseCoopers and published by Dziennik Gazeta Prawna. "The undoubted success in the area of social responsibility reflected in the published Responsible Companies Ranking comes from all our employees, our management methods and our great passion -making the best beer. Cooperating with business partners and third-sector organization within the framework of social initiative "For What It's Worth!" or the employee volunteering program bring measurable benefits to the local communities where we operate," said Paweł Sudoł, President of Kompania Piwowarska, after the ranking was published.
How was the ranking created
Ranking was created based on five criteria/categories: social responsibility, customer relations, employee relations, ecological responsibility and social involvement. There were 10 questions in each of the six categories. A maximum of 100 points were awarded in each area. Kompania Piwowarska received 541 points out of 600. Moreover, Kompania Piwowarska was named the Responsibility Leader in the area of social involvement, receiving the maximum number of points.
Kompania's social responsibility
"At Kompania Piwowarska, responsible business operations are a key to ensure sustainable development for the company and its business partners. Responsible business is a cohesive management concept embraced by the company's employees. In making business decisions they follow ethical and environmental guidelines with the assumption that the resources are scarce and need to be best utilized," said Małgorzata Walędzińska, CSR Manager at Kompania Piwowarska SA.
Social responsibility in the context of sustainable development is an integral part of Kompania Piwowarska's philosophy. Within the framework of operations, the company has identified 10 sustainable development priorities that show the company's responsible approach to business.
Responsible consumption and local involvement
To prevent irresponsible alcohol consumption Kompania Piwowarska participates in multiple projects promoting responsible consumption (Appearances deceive, proof doesn't, Driving? - don't drink) and offers its own innovative solutions (Put your per mille to the test). The company is also involved in local communities where it operates, bringing sustainable benefits to its business or social partners as well as public organizations (an initiative preventing social exclusion because of poverty, "For What It's Worth!" and an employee volunteering program, Come Rain or Shine). It also continues dialogues with business partners in regards to sustainable development.
Environmentally friendly company
Environmental activities are among the most important elements of the sustainable development policy and bring the company measurable economic gains. In recent years, KP has made a number of investments in regards to ecology, which resulted in conserving water, power and heat, and led to lowered production costs. Over the last three years Kompania Piwowarska has saved 10% water, 29% heat and reduced CO2 emission by 47%. Also, it has launched a special ecological program for its employees, "In Tune with Nature," which is a part of the company's environment protection policy. It stimulates employees and their families to reduce and sort waste as well as conserve water and power in their private lives.
