Bavaria keeps betting on the education of Colombian tenderos’ children and grandchildren (Translation)

16 April 2010

Bogotá, April 13th, 2010.  As part of its initiatives to become a socially responsible company to its most significant business partners, Bavaria, the leading beverages company in Colombia, presented today the second phase of its program: "Bavaria Opportunities: Educational Support for Tenderos' Children", whereby it has been providing, since last October 2009, access to technical, technological and university careers to the children and grandchildren of vulnerable tenderos throughout the country, projected at 500 for the second semester of 2010 and another 3,000 over the following three years.

This program is an innovative, beneficial sponsorship system that covers up to 80% of the tuition fee for technical, technological and/or university careers, at an interest rate of 0%, which demands no co-signer. It is available to the children and grandchildren of vulnerable tenderos, from 16 to 25 years of age, undergoing their 11th grade, or who have graduated from high school and are currently attending a technical, technological or the last 3 years of a university career. Those selected will be the sons and daughters or grandsons and granddaughters of tenderos who have achieved the highest scores in the state exams - ICFES - and have been accepted or are attending a career in a technical institution approved by the Ministry of National Education. Once they graduate and achieve a career, beneficiaries will pay a small fixed percentage of their salary, only while they are employed, and maximum for the time they received the educational support.

To enroll, candidates may send by regular mail the pre-enrolment basic form or, even better, complete the information by visiting www.bavaria.com.co. Enrolment for this second phase, corresponding to the second academic semester of this year, has been opened since last April 5th, and shall extend until June 11th.

Educational Support for Tenderos' Children reaffirms the need to consolidate the propaedeutic method in Colombia - approved by the Ministry of National Education - and which allows students to complete their studies by cycles; that is to say, semester courses of technical educations are valid to complete technological and university studies. Recent studies indicate that the Colombian labor market requires a higher number of professional technicians and technologists in the fields required in the country, to contribute to closing the revenue distribution gap.

The support is reimbursable in nature to prevent university drop-out - as is demonstrated by scholarships grants which increases university study drop-out levels - especially in vulnerable populations, and this is not a sustainable option over time. Likewise, alternatives like these that provide technical and technologically superior education through cycles and corporate covenants contribute to promoting economy in the country to a large extent.

Fernando Jaramillo, Bavaria's Vice President of Corporate Affairs mentioned: "At Bavaria, we are committed to the development and improvement of life quality of the families of our tenderos as, in addition to them being our clients, they are our most important friends. They represent a key community of the economy, they are natural born leaders, as well as models of leadership and self-improvement. The only thing we ask from them, in order for their children or grandchildren to gain access to this support is very simple: to sell our products at a regulated price and that under no circumstances shall they sell to underage individuals".

Educational Support for tenderos' children is a program managed by Lumni Colombia, a firm specialized in the design and management of human capital investment funds for students with high potential and low income.

Bavaria S. A. is the largest beverage company of Colombia. Its brands Águila, Águila Light, Club Colombia, Cola & Pola, Costeña, Costeñita, Peroni, Pilsen, Póker, Redd's and Pony Malta are leaders in their respective beverage categories in Colombia.
