Progressing Together issues certificates in Arequipa (Translation)

57 Arequipa entrepreneurs were trained
Arequipa, January 13th, 2010.- Progressing Together, an entrepreneurs development program promoted by Backus for the micro and SMEs, has finished its basic and advanced business management courses targeting customers and suppliers respectively. The courses were issued in November in the city of Arequipa.
Those who participated in the basic program studied a unit in Business Creation, Marketing and Costs and Good Practices Management. The advanced level participants were trained on Strategic Planning, Competitive Marketing, Financial Management and Good Practices Management. The units were given by IPAE speakers in a period of 4 weeks.
Twenty-six suppliers and 31 customers participated in the courses. During a special ceremony, they all received a certificate for their participation on behalf of Backus and IPAE's program, Progressing Together. Also, a small fair was organized as part of the event. During the fair, entrepreneurs approached the services that several institutions such as banks, municipalities and the Chamber of Commerce can offer them. Participants' relatives and Backus and IPAE representatives were present at the closing event.
Malena Morales, Backus Sustainable Development Director, was responsible for the closing of the event. During her speech, she stated: "We are convinced that through the Progressing Together program, we are providing business management tools to micro and SMEs that are part of our value chain. By doing that we are also contributing to the economic and social development of the city of Arequipa."
In the upcoming months, Progressing Together area of Suppliers and Customer Development is planning to develop a course for suppliers in the city of Trujillo and another for customers in the city of Lima.
Backus effort to contribute to the skill strengthening of the micro and SMEs aims at improving efficiency, productivity, environmental and social conditions. Thus, Backus creates opportunities for local sustainable developments such as market development and employment and wealth creation. By doing so, Backus will achieve a greater economic and social integration at national and regional levels.

Progressing Together is a development program for the micro and SMEs linked to the agricultural, services, marketing and tourism sectors of areas where Backus operates.
From its beginning in March 2008, Progressing Together has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs to develop business management skills. Over 540 of them came from Lima, Trujillo, Chiclayo, Cusco, Piura, Huancayo, Pucallpa, Tacna and Arequipa; 83 craftsmen came from Huaca de la Luna and the pyramids of Túcume; 68 mothers came from Motupe and more than 270 hard yellow corn producers came from Jequetepeque Valley.
